Formby crash victim James Walmsley features in Channel Five documentary about Walton Neuroligical centre

A MERSEYSIDE man who suffered brain damage in a fatal road crash is the subject of a Channel Five documentary.

James Walmsley suffered massive head injuries when the Ford Focus he was driving collided with a Nissan Qashqai on the Formby bypass last May.

Frazer McCarthy, 21, who sat in the front seat of the Focus, was killed.

James was banned from driving at the time of the crash and police are still investigating the incident.

Tonight’s documentary follows the aftermath of the crash starting when the Formby man was rushed to Walton neurological centre and consultant Paul May tells James’ mum and dad that their son could also die.

Brain Hospital: Saving Lives, shows James undergoing life saving surgery and his parents weeping with relief when they were told the procedure was a success.

James’ dad Jack said: “I told the surgeon that he was my superman after he saved my son’s life. He have me a hug. That was a very difficult day. Our son’s life was in the balance.”
