DUO Wally and Paul and singing accountant Doug Coleman became the first contestants through to the grand final of a Southport bar’s annual karaoke competition.
The duo’s version of Take That single Hold Up A Light won them the opening heat – and a voucher for a recording session at Southport’s Sun Studios as well as a place in the final on December 19, with a £1,000 hamper up for grabs.
Visiter advertising executive Liza Rowland, judging the heat alongside Elvis tribute act Louis Rockafella, said: “This duo really showed what karaoke is all about, you could tell they were thoroughly enjoying themselves.”
Doug’s rendition of Cry Me A River also won him a place in the final, no mean feat on the most successful opening heat in the competition’s five year history.
The next heat takes place at Rueters tomorrow night (November 28), but prospective entrants are advised to book their place early.
Entrance forms are available in the bar, on Hoghton Street.
