Formby drunk sentenced for beating partner

A DRUNKEN businessman attacked his partner in a frenzied assault at a Formby flat has been spared jail.

Andrew Owen Brown punched his girlfriend several times after he had been drinking.

On February 5, Brown, of Brows Lane, Formby, pleaded guilty to assault.

He is now under a 12-month supervision order and must complete 160 hours of unpaid work as well as paying £150 in compensation.

Brown was back before the bench yesterday morning (March 2) at North Sefton Magistrates’ Court, following completion of a pre-sentencing report.

The court heard that Brown, who runs a media business that employs five people, had returned home to the York Road flat on January 15 and fell asleep on the settee.

When he did eventually make it to bed his partner told him about several phone messages regarding work.

In a rage Brown stood at the end of the bed and launched himself at her.

Prosecuting, Helen Prescott said the complainant described Brown as being “abusive and hostile to her” and “he became violent”.

The pair had had several arguments before the incident, but Brown had never assaulted the complainant before.

The defendant pinned her against the wall and punched her. He ran after her and punched her in the face, causing a split lip. He continued chasing her and she begged him to stop.
