Formby pulls together to help Haiti

CHURCH goers, Rotarians and shoppers have been digging deep to help the disaster stricken island.

A special collection announced by Our Lady’s parish council chairman Ann Long was announced and has since led to the donation of more than £1,400, with money still arriving at the School Lane church.

Worshippers at St Jerome’s have also acted to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti with their own collection.

So far that has seen £1,027 pour in from the congregation after Father Leo Lynch called on worshippers to donate to the cause.

Anne Devine, treasurer of the Justice and Peace Group said: “We have a lot more promised, some people wanted to write cheques and we expect donations still to come in.”

The money collected by St Jerome’s has been handed over to the aid agency CAFOD which will make sure the funds reach those worst affected.

Formby Rotarian Ian Cover said that the money raised from Christmas Carol singing had already been put to good use with the purchase of two “shelter boxes”.
