Formby residents overcome freezing conditions

WINTRY conditions have left Formby’s pavements and roads frozen, with temperatures plummeting to lower than –10°C at the end of last week.

Across Formby Point, there was nothing to be seen but a blanket of white snow.

Schools in Formby closed because of the bad weather, but re-opened on Monday, just in time for GCSE exams.

But the Big Freeze looks set to turn into the Big Thaw, as the temperature starts to rise over the next week, but this has not stopped widespread disruption.

Merseyside Police are warning people to take extra care as they make their way to work.

Officers are advising motorists to be especially cautious while driving and for pedestrians to be mindful of icy pavements.

Hundreds of homes across the North West have been experiencing problems with their water supply because of frozen pipes.

United Utilities have received over 7,500 calls from people with no water or low water pressure and advising people to use a hot water bottle or a hairdryer in short bursts to try and thaw pipes at the point that they enter the property.

One Vision Housing tenants have also been left without heat after their boilers have broken down.

Cllr Jack Colbert said that he has been contacted by a number of tenants who have had problems with their central heating and hot water.
