A FORMBY teenager is hoping to raise more than £3,000 to travel to Africa and help disadvantaged people.
George Wareing, 18, has been invited by volunteer organisation CAMPS International to take part in their 2010 project in Tanzania.
George and 14 other students from Formby High School will help rebuild and repair community schools, teach children new skills and help develop wildlife initiatives.
So far, George has managed to raise £1,500 towards the cost of the trip by holding a series of fundraisers, but hopes to raise another £1,900.
He said: “This is something I have wanted to do for a long time.
“When CAMPS International came into my school to do a talk and asked I jumped on board straight away.
“The idea behind the trip is that people are sent out to Africa to do volunteer work, rather than just sending money out and not knowing where it goes.
“Around 15 people from my school are planning to go and at the moment we are just trying to raise the £3,400 required.
“I just want to get out there and help people.”
