Formby girls’ football team appeals for a goalkeeper
REDGATE Rovers girls football team are searching for an extra team member.
The Under 14s who train at the Watchyard Lane training ground in Formby are after a safe pair of hands in goal as they bid for glory in the West Lancs girls football league.
The girls are currently sitting in the middle of the table, but manager Pat O’Callaghan thinks that with a dedicated player in goal they could become title contenders.
He said: “At the moment we throw the jersey to a different player each week, last Sunday we were leading two-nil, but drew in the end and the only reason was because we don’t have a goalkeeper.
“Without someone in goal we can’t substitute anyone.
“The goalkeeper is quite an integral player in the team and there are about 30,000 people in Formby so surely there’s a 13-year-old that can catch a ball!”
