Merseyside’s Chief Constable, Bernard Hogan-Howe bids farewell to Sefton

THE departing Chief Constable of Merseyside Police paid his final visit to Sefton to address cabinet members.

Bernard Hogan-Howe is leaving his job as the area’s top cop after five years, to take up a post with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary, the police watchdog, in London.

He said: “It’s very mixed emotions. I’m sad to be leaving, because I love my job.

“I have worked with a fantastic group of people at Merseyside Police. They do a great job for the people of Merseyside. They take a lot of risks, and they are very courageous.

“There’s always a time to move on, and I’m looking forward to learning new skills and meeting new people.”

Since joining the force in 2004, Mr Hogan-Howe has visited each of Merseyside’s local authorities twice a year, something he believes has been crucial in maintaining strong links with councillors and their constituents.

He said: “The idea is to say to them how we think we are doing, and to give them an opportunity to ask questions and bring things forward on behalf of their constituents. It’s a great opportunity to meet.”
