Shadow Minister David Willetts talks about the MPs expenses fiasco during a visit to Formby

Mr Willetts said: “Sunlight is the best disinfectant. It is taxpayers’ money and people are entitled to know.

“Standards and transparency are much better than they were a few years ago.”

He also said some politicians do need two homes, which can be quite expensive and some MPs need the support.

Mr Willetts added: “We don’t want to end up with politics as only a place for people who have lots of money.”
