Desmond, born in Liverpool, moved to Tyneside as a young boy of seven, subsequently moving to Glasgow University before returning to Liverpool in 1955 to join J Bibby & Sons. He joined the Central Oil Company in 1967 eventually becoming its managing director.Read

LAST week I reported that about 20,000 people had accepted the 200,000 invitations issued across the country to the recent Anglican Back to Church Sunday initiative at (end of September).
