The Foreign Office is investigating reports that a British Islamist has been killed in Somalia after falling out with the al-Shabaab terror group.
The BBC quoted witnesses as saying the man known as Osama al-Britani - a UK citizen of Pakistani origin - and Omar Hammami, an American also known as al-Amriki, died in an early morning attack in a village near the capital, Mogadishu.
The two men were reported to have been in hiding after breaking away from al-Shabaab - a militant group linked to al Qaida - earlier this year.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are aware of reports of the death of a British national in Somalia and are looking into this."
