Young sisters die in ditch crash

Two young girls who died after a car crashed into a roadside drainage ditch were sisters.

The victims, aged seven and 10, died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in the accident on the A47 near Wisbech, Norfolk Police said.

A police spokesman confirmed that the girls' father and their 12-year-old brother both suffered minor injuries when the Ford Focus rolled on to its side at about 6.40pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old motorist was killed when his BMW car crashed into a tree early on Friday.

The victim, who has yet to be formally identified but is known to be from Market Drayton, Shropshire, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the nearby A53.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Audley Cross Farm, close to the border between Staffordshire and Shropshire, at about 1.10am.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "On arrival, crews found a car that had suffered very significant damage.

"Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, it was not possible to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
