LAST season’s Division 1 champions Scarisbrick Hotel found Wings in top form in the deciding match for this year’s championship, with Wings coming out winners 54-35.
All of the Wings team played well, with Tom Farley 19, Dag Griffiths 17, Maurice Wright 11 and Keith Mulhearn 7 all making useful contributions and Dave Sinclair 19 leading for the visitors. Casablanca moved up to share third place with Formby RBL after beating them 38-27 with Arthur Jones 14 and Bill Thomas 13 scoring well and Molly West 10 leading the reply. Southport FC had a surprise victory 35-32 at Cavaliers but there are no further match details.
The Division 2 title remains in doubt after London Boys’ fine 39-34 victory at Devonshire Club. Ian Wainwright 14, Geoff Hedley 11 and Alan Wright 10 all scored well for the visitors and Ian Jackson 13 for Devonshire.
Baron’s Bar continued their recent improvement with a comfortable 48-25 victory over St Patrick’s A, with Steve Murphy scoring and excellent 22, including a “full-house” and Phil Lally 10. Bob Ellis 15 led Vikings to a 30-17 victory at Exams.
Formby Pavilion clinched the Division 3 championship with a hard-fought 34-31 victory over Ainsdale Sands, with Frank Gracie 10 top-scoring and Jack Gardner 14 leading for Sands. MPs failed to sustain their title challenge in going down 35-28 to St Jerome’s, Ann Evans 14 leading for MPs and Paul Ford 14 for the visitors. Sacred Heart achieved a rare victory with a 20-18 defeat of St Patrick’s.
