FORMBY are celebrating being crowned the champion club of England.
The club’s three-strong team triumphed over 36 tense holes at Woodbridge in Suffolk in a competition where every shot counts.
The teenage trio kept their nerve to claim success at the English Champion Club Tournament, supported by Powakaddy, in a field of 34 teams from around the country.
Paul Kinnear, Mark Duncalf and James Bolton compiled an aggregate score of 428, eight over par, for a two-shot victory over Moor Park from Hertfordshire.
“We are delighted to win,” said Duncalf. “This means a lot. To win any EGU Championship is great and this provides a fine end to the season.”
Formby sent one of the youngest teanms to the tournament with a combined age of just 51 but their pedigree was clear with a total handicap of plus three.
They secured a one-shot advantage after the first round and held off the challengers on day two, having gone out early to lay down a marker to their main rivals.
They set a challenging clubhouse target thanks to a level-par 70 from 16 years-old Kinnear, 71 from Duncalf and 74 from Bolton.
