Although conditions favoured the batsmen, it was a tough task for the relatively inexperienced team to score 190 to win the match, but after losing two early wickets, Jack Cropper and Mackenzie Williams turned things round with some majestic strokeplay as they added 120 in only 15 overs, Williams scoring 43 in his first game for four seasons and Cropper striking 15 fours in his 81.
The visitors hit back to take three wickets in an over and despite 23 from Ben Helme, Formby still needed 16 to win when their eighth wicket fell. David Seddon finished the job without further alarms, adding an unbeaten 19 to his three wickets earlier in the day.
Another busy weekend is in prospect, starting with the first XI at home to Lytham on Friday night in the Echo Knockout (6pm), followed on Saturday by another first XI home game versus Lytham.
The seconds travel to the Fylde coast in good heart after two recent wins and will hope to climb a few places higher in the table.
On Sunday, the first XI are at home to Highfield (Wigan) in the League KO, which starts at 1.30pm.
The thirds are drawn at home to Huyton but will have to find an alternative venue due to the first XI game, whilst the fourths have no league game but hope to arrange a friendly away also on Sunday.
There are unconfirmed rumours that there may be a barbecue on one or more of the three days, so if the good weather continues, please come along to Cricket Path.
