FORMBY suffered further frustration as yet another North West Counties League first division fixture was called off.
Saturday’s scheduled League clash at Oldham-based Chadderton Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
That is the fourth match in a row that has fallen victim to the weather as Jim Shirley’s side were again left kicking their heels.
Home games against Daisy Hill, Leek CSOB and Abbey Hey were all called off and, along with Saturday’s fixture at Chadderton, they will all have to be rescheduled in the new year when the Squirrels will be over-worked due to the backlog of games building up.
The Squirrels will be desperate to get back into action soon and will hope this Saturday’s trip to Rochdale Town (kick-off 3pm) and the following weekend’s visit to Atherton LR are both on.
The last match Formby played was the FA Carlsberg Trophy first round defeat at Runcorn Town on November 17. While the last North West Counties League game was the previous week when they beat the same opposition 3-0 at Altcar Road.
Formby are sixth in the table but have played just nine times this season. They have only lost once this season and have games in hand on all their rivals at the top including a massive eight on leaders AFC Darwen, who are 10 points ahead of the Squirrels.
All of Formby Juniors Sports Club’s fixtures were also postponed after Sefton Council declared their pictures unplayable.
FJSC’s teams will hope to get back into action in the new year over the weekend of January 5-6.
