Britain Memorial Flight major attraction at Southport Airshow

Battle of Britain

SEVENTY years after World War II began, people will be able to pay tribute to ‘The Few’ after the awe-inspiring Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was confirmed as another major attraction at this weekend’s Southport Air Show.

Three of the most prominent military aircraft in history will perform on the Saturday of the event, which takes place over two days, on September 26 and 27.

Including Spitfire and Hurricane fighters, and the incredible Lancaster Bomber, the fly-past is a fitting and often emotional reminder of the British strength of force in enemy skies between July and October 1940.

Southport will mark the 69th anniversary of the battle as thousands of people line the seafront to see this, and many other displays, during the weekend.

The most technically advanced fighter from the 21st century has also been confirmed as the Typhoon jet, also known as Eurofighter, will also be wowing the crowds with its awesome display of speed and manoeuvrability.

Peter Sandman of Sefton Council’s Tourism Department, said: “I am delighted that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is returning to Southport. When the planes approach the whole audience goes silent and you can feel the emotion and pride from the crowds.”
