HAVING started life as a coach house when the Leeds/Liverpool canal was built in the late nineteenth century, the Saracens Head, Halsall has a long and illustrious history. Used as a wood yard during the Second World War, it became a well-known country pub in the 50s, and now, the canal side pub has relaunched as a gastro pub.

Committed to making the Saracens Head a shining star in the local restaurant scene, Steve and Denise invested over s350,000 in the refurbishment.
Steve explains: Everything is now brand new - the building was completely stripped back to the original brick work and given a twenty-first century design, cutting edge dmcor and an entirely new kitchen. We also put in a new outdoor childrens play area and landscaped most of the grounds.
Decorated in a chic contemporary style, the new-look pub features lots of natural wood, marble, leather and cowhide, with paintings by local artist, Gary Daly, enhancing the ambience and creating a talking point.
The feedback from customers has been extremely positive, said Steve; People are astounded by the difference and say how beautiful it is. The artwork in particular gets a lot of people talking.

We serve both classic pub food like traditional Lancashire hotpot and potted Morcambe Bay shrimps, as well as contemporary British dishes like confit of pork belly, pan-fried salmon and braised lamb shoulder with shallots, sun dried tomatoes and smoked garlic mash - so theres something to suit all tastes, explained Steve.
